Drawing from observation, experimenting with making different shapes from the zip, making circles for the round bit and straight lines.
More drawing from the objects. The more i practiced the different shapes the better they got and looked in proportion with the rest of the object. Doing this helped me to get the object looking realistic and made sure all the lines which i couldn't see join up.
Drawing from the objects; trying to get the right shapes and tones with card and ink.
The next day i worked on drawing from different objects again, but trying to make changes to these objects, this could be changing it from rounded edges to square or having the object bigger.
We discussed design faults in some products like how in some tea pots, the tea leaks from the spout so that's a design fault as the designers of the product haven't thought about it properly.
We also looked at different products have changed over time and how they have evolved and progressed e.g. the ipod- this has gone from being really big and chunky to quite small and thin so now ables people to fit it into their pockets.
Using graphite sticks to draw the objects with, We had a few minutes to draw the object. I then went onto trying to slightly change the design of the product to make it better.
Drawing from different perspectives.
After this we made small models from our observational drawings using card, experimenting with shape and texture. We then took this further to make card lampshades.
To make this lampshade, I plaited card together and weaved each plait together using plastic wire. I wanted the light to shine through so thought plaiting would be a good idea, I think this worked well and looked like a light which would be made for an outdoor living space.
I wanted to change my original weave design into a lamp which was more tall and sophisticated. I wanted to keep the plait theme going so decided to use a craft knife and cut out a plait design in the middle of the lamp, I then rolled the card up and sewed it together creating a cylinder shape. To this i added plaits around the edge, I added two at the top and three at the bottom. This design would be good as a tall floor lamp and lets the light through the cut out slightly creating a warm glow.
